SIMPLE SPECIAL SATISFACTION

“What should I eat?” that the question I ask whenever I enter “Bonbin”, an open cafeteria located between Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) and Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This daily confusion actually annoys me because in the end I always eat the same food I ate yesterday. Moreover, the crowd and heat cover the place in lunch time when I grab my late breakfast. Even I should eat at one table with dirty plates and glasses which have not been taken by the sellers. The left-overs on those plates make me shudder and loss of appetite. High and low noises from people chatting and disgusting smoke become usual decorations for this place. Among those things, I try to find my comfort every time I come here.

As usual, I had my ‘brunch’ here again. With hard determination I looked around thinking what dish I wanted to eat for today.
“Like usual?” said my friend suggesting me to eat food I usually eat. However, I refused; I was bored. I thought for a while then I chose “Warung Bu Ning,” which sold ‘home’ dishes. A small food stand located between magazine and Chinese food stand. There, you can find perkedel, fried fish, fried egg, fried tempe, and various vegetables soup. These kinds of foods are healthy and quite nutritious. The buyers are permitted to take their own food. I took the rice by myself so I could arrange the amount of it according to my hunger level. The rice was still warm since it was in a rice cooker. Then I took fried egg and vegetables soup. The dish in my plate was warm. Then I grabbed a bottle of mineral water; I did not drink cold beverage because of sore throat.
It was simple dish, but it was delicious brunch because I could feel my home cooking. The white rice was smooth and not mushy. The sweet savor from it and the salty savor from broth of the soup were mixing creating yummy taste since I ate too mush plain foods in Yogyakarta. The fried egg was crunchy and savory added with sprinkling of green onion. Furthermore, the freshness of the dish was completed by vegetables of the soup such as slice of cabbages, carrots, and green onion. I ate it until my plate was clean.
This dish was priced Rp. 6000,-. Although it was only homely brunch, but since I was very hungry, it seemed special to make me satisfied.
